These are the adventures of a young black Jewish woman in Hollywood. Some names have been changed to protect the guilty.
Penny Falls Down The Rabbit Hole
Published on June 25, 2004 By PMS Girl In Welcome
My name is Penelope Morris Simone. My initials are PMS. It's a curse.

I moved from Houston to LA a few weeks ago to work in the business called show. I signed a year's lease for a N. Hollywood apt. with unexplainable stains on the ceilings. Maurice, my miniature chocolate chiuahua (msp? it's very late) felt so good about the place that he emptied his gall bladder on the berber carpet. I never knew it was possible that a two pound dog could empty ten pounds of yellow bile. I started crying soon after.

I went to Columbia University and transferred to NYU my junior year. My mother is black, she grew up in Hitchcock, Texas and my father is French. My parents met in Galveston Island, Texas. I'd like to say that I grew up under adverse and turbulent conditions for poetic reasons but I can't. I went to Bellaire High School in Houston. I have two brothers. Samuel is the eldest and he owns property in Terre Haute, Indiana, single, and considers himself a 'playa'. Frank (Francois) is a dance major at UT.

I left NYC shortly after 9/11 and tried to make a life back in Houston. I worked for awhile at a local television station answering the phone for a 'consumer advocate' who slammed local businesses for their lack of appreciation for their celebrity (i.e. no free dinners for them and their entourage). I was looking over applications to grad school when an old friend called me about working for her production company in LA. I jumped. Why not?

Let's call my LA friend Louise. She's a sweet but misguided soul. I worked on her thesis project about Tennessee Williams at NYU. She was entering the 'dark side of her thirties' when she started going to college and what age she is now is still a complete mystery. She is fluid with aphorisms. She moved to LA on the promise of her younger boyfriend's acceptance of a short film to Slamdance. 'He is soo goood!'. I thought she was talking about his abilities as a filmmaker but after seeing the short I am now thinking she's talking about his other attributes. Her boyfriend stunt doubles for (major film star, short, known for his whitey tighties) when he isn't making fetishistic vampire films. So? I enter this foray, thinking I can get a script I wrote about a series of mysterious killings in Houston's Pacific Street produced.

More later.....
